Free Deer Meat Drive

For the Molokai Community

In 1868, King Kamehameha V introduced a small herd of axis deer to the Island of Molokai.

Working with Molokai Humane Society, the club provided the Molokai community with 19,350 pounds of free deer meat, serviced over 282 homes, and dispatched 544 axis deer from April 2021 to September 2021.

We provide free deer meat to the community, while also working with Sustʻāinable Molokai on distribution. In September 2022, the Free Deer Meat Drive disbursed to 367 household sizes: 279 deer burger quarts and 127 whole meat gallon.

Adopt-A-Highway

Mile Marker 2 to 4 of Maunaloa Hwy

Adopt-A-Highway is a public service program
for volunteers to pick up litter along Hawaii’s
highways. It’s a way for environmentally
conscious citizens to make a contribution
to a cleaner Hawaii. In addition to a cleaner
roadside, participants help to prevent
pollutants from entering our storm drains,
streams, and the ocean.

Adopt-A-Highway groups agree to:
• Adopt a 2 mile portion of state highway for a
minimum of 2 years.
• Pick up litter on that highway at least 4 times per year.
• Provide safety training for their volunteers before
each cleanup.

Honomuni Loʻi Clean-up

Led by John Russell Phifer

The moku that history & mo'olelo of Moloka’i hails, “As the district that holds the lands of Moloka’i ali’i is the Moku o Honomuni.”

There are 4 loko i’a within the Moku o Honomuni; Nahiole pu’uone, Kihaloko, Waihilahila, and Kulaalamihi. Fronting these 4 loko i’a is historically known as “Haua fishery” or known today as “Honomuni fishery or Honomuni Harbor”.

From an 1893 survey and map done by M.D. Monsarrat, the points that connect Haua Fishery (Honomuni Harbor) in the ocean are; Haua, Kahalanui, Kalahu’okaali’i, Kauluna, Moelehu, Namahana and Kapukapuakea (Taputapuatea).

The names of the Loko i’a and names of Haua Fishery (Honomuni Harbor) are parts of genealogical names of Ali’i Hawai’i.

As Moloka’i Hunting Club continues to do their monthly volunteer service to malama aina within Moku o Honomuni, we will continue to share mo’olelo of these Loko i'a and Haua Fishery (Honomuni Harbor).
